Mushroom curry recipe |ಮಶ್ರೂಮ್ ಬಟಾಣಿ ಕರ್ರಿ

 

Do you love mushrooms? Then you should definitely try out this recipe!

I used oyster mushrooms for the first time and was slightly doubtful about how it would taste. But both mushrooms and the curry tasted delightful. This delicious mushroom and peas curry can be eaten along with chapati, roti, and poori.

Ingredients:

  • Mushroom – 250 gm
  • Green Peas – 1/2 cup
  • Cooking Oil – 5 tbsp
  • Cardomom – 3 nos.
  • Cloves – 3 nos.
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Green Chilli – 4 nos.
  • Onion – 1 medium
  • Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
  • Tomato – 2 nos.
  • Cashews – 10 nos.
  • Turmeric – 1/4th tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1/2 tbsp
  • Water – 1/2 cup
  • Garam Masala – 1/2 tsp
  • Ghee – 1tbsp
  • Coriander leaves – a handful

Directions:

Step 1: Soak cashews in water for half an hour. Chop 2 tomatoes. In a mixer, grind both cashews and chopped tomatoes in a paste. If required add some water so that paste becomes smooth.

Step 2: On a medium flame, add 5 tbsp cooking oil in a pan. After oil becomes warm, throw in 3 nos. cardamom, 3-4 nos. cloves, 1 tsp jeera, 4 medium-sized finely chopped green chili. Roast these well. Now add 1 chopped onion, and 1 tbsp of ginger garlic paste and saute until raw smell goes away.

Step 3: Pour in the freshly made tomato puree, and saute until color the gravy changes color. To this, add 1/4th tsp turmeric, 1.2 tsp red chili powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tbsp salt and mix well until the smell of raw masala powder no more persists.

Step 4: Add 1/2 cup green peas and 250 gms of thoroughly washed mushrooms ( I have used oyster mushrooms, you can add any edible mushroom of your choice). Add 1/2 cup water and mix well. Close the pan lid and let this cook for 10 min on a low flame. At regular intervals do not forget to stir the curry.

Step 5: At the end, 1/2 tsp of garam masala, 1 tbsp ghee/ butter and some chopped coriander leaves. Stir and let it cook for 2 min.

Step 6: Serve it hot with chapatis or roti!

Notes:

  • You can tweak the quantity of each ingredient as per your taste and preference
  • You can replace oyster mushrooms with any other mushroom of your choice
  • Do not add too much water to the curry, as it will lessen the taste of curry
  • Curry can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 days
