Avalakki | Easy Lemon Poha

Written by

Avalakki / Poha is a popular Indian breakfast made with flattened rice, onion, coconut, lemon, turmeric powder, spices, and herbs. It’s a quick and easy breakfast or brunch recipe for busy days, and the best part is that flattened rice, the main ingredient requires little to no cooking. So you can imagine how quickly you could make this!

If you are using thin flattened rice, then no soaking is necessary. Simply rinse 2-3 times and use it. However, for thick flattened rice, you will have to soak it for 4-5 minutes until it is soft, and then drain out the water completely (use your hands to squeeze out water).

Avalakki is my go-to meal for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and even dinner. Not only because it’s a quick-to-make meal but also for how comforting and easy it is on the stomach. I hope you try this easy recipe and enjoy it!
