Methi Peas Pulao

Methi Peas Pulao

Methi Peas Pulao or Methi Mattar Pulao is a delicious one-pot meal made with fresh fenugreek leaves, green peas, tomato, spices, and herbs.

The recipe for this pulao is simple, and the dish can be prepared in under 25 minutes in a pressure cooker, if you have the ingredients prepped and ready. Prepping takes some time, so I usually make this meal leisurely on weekends, and we eat it for lunch and dinner preferably with onion raita.

If you are someone who meal-preps the previous night, then this can well be a weekday meal. It tastes delicious and is healthy, so I hope you try this and enjoy it with your family!

Ingredients:

2 cups of basmati rice (400g approx)
200g green peas (frozen or fresh)
1 bunch of methi/fenugreek leaves, cleaned and chopped
4 cups of water
4 tablespoons of cooking oil
3-4 cloves
1/2 inch cinnamon
4 green cardamom
1 star anise
2 bay leaves
1 mace
1 small onion, sliced
1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
5-6 green chillies(or as per your taste)
1/2 tomato, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
Half a lemon
Salt to taste

Preparation:

Heat oil in a pressure cooker on medium flame. Once the oil is hot enough, add all the spices – green cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves, star anise, and mace, and saute until aromatic. Then add and saute onion slices until transparent followed by ginger garlic paste until the raw smell disappears.

Add green chilies, saute for a few seconds and then add chopped tomatoes and cook them until soft and mushy on low-medium heat. Add salt to taste, turmeric powder, and garam masala, and saute for a few seconds.

Add green peas and chopped methi leaves, saute for a minute, cover, and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Add basmati rice and pour water. Combine and allow the mixture to combine to boil. Drizzle half a lemon, mix, and adjust salt if necessary at this point.

Close the lid and pressure cook on medium heat until two whistles. Turn off and let the cooker depressurize. Enjoy delicious methi peas pulao with raita.
