If you’re tired of the same old sweet oatmeal every morning, this savory version is a must-try!
Savory oatmeal is a hearty oatmeal dish made with rolled oats, aromatic spices, and mixed vegetables. It’s nourishing, satisfying, and perfect for an everyday breakfast or a relaxed weekend brunch.
This cozy, soupy-style savory oats recipe is one of my go-tos when the weather turns chilly. It’s easy to put together and tastes wonderful on its own or paired with Greek yogurt.
Ingredients
Rolled oats – you’ll need rolled oats for this recipe, though steel-cut oats can be used as an alternative. However, steel-cut oats takes longer to cook compared to rolled oats.
Oil – use any neutral cold-pressed oil; I usually reach for cold-pressed peanut oil.
Spices – you’ll need mustard seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, chili powder, and salt.
Herbs – a few fresh curry leaves are needed for tempering, and coriander leaves for garnishing.
Ginger – just a small pinch of freshly grated ginger is enough for this recipe.
Vegetables – you’ll need onions, tomatoes, green peas, and carrots; green beans and edamame also work well here.
Water – use regular room-temperature water.
